PHENOXYKEP WSP

Suitable for:

COMPOSITION:

Contains per g:
Phenoxymethylpenicillin potassium 325 mg
(equivalent to 293 mg penicillin V)

DESCRIPTION:

Phenoxymethylpenicillin is a beta-lactam antibiotic. Phenoxymethylpenicillin is more acid-stable than benzylpenicillin, which allows it to be given orally. It exerts a bactericidal action against penicillin-sensitive microorganisms during the stage of active multiplication. It acts by inhibiting the biosynthesis of cell-wall peptidoglycan. It is not active against beta-lactamase-producing bacteria, which include many strains of Staphylococci. Phenoxymethylpenicillin has a range of antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive bacteria, but it is substantially less active against Gram-negative bacteria. Phenoxymethylpenicillin is stable in drinking water. Maximum plasma concentrations are reached within two hours. Phenoxymethylpenicillin is a narrow spectrum antibiotic and the risk of inducing resistance by the use of this product is much smaller.

INDICATIONS:

Pigs:

  • Treatment and control of meningitis and septicaemia caused by Streptococcus suis
  • Treatment and control of pleuropneumonia caused by Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae
  • Secondary pneumonia caused by Pasteurella multocida

Poultry:

  • Treatment and control of necrotic enteritis caused by Clostridium perfringens susceptible to phenoxymethylpenicillin

CONTRA-INDICATIONS:

Do not use in case of hypersensitivity to penicillins.

SIDE EFFECTS:

Penicillins can cause vomiting, diarrhoea and a change in bacterial flora in the intestines can be seen.

INCOMPATIBILITY WITH OTHER DRUGS:

Do not combine with bacteriostatic agents. Metal can alter the stability of penicillin, so do not use metal pipelines when using the product.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:

For oral administration via drinking water.
Pigs:
